Trains and subways are going to change. Period. Magnetic Levitation will be a standard technology in major cities, allowing reduced friction with higher speed topped up with lower power consumption.
People are now able to travel longer distances. I could live in Helsinki and work in Stockholm. No problem. Thanks to Elon Musk and its Hyperloop. Street car infrastructure is also going to be fairly interesting. Also other personal vehicle solutions could be pretty damn cool. Personal jets and drones to name a few. Actually they have already produced a concept drone/helicopter. Dibs on that.
Public transport. You know it. You maybe hate it. At least you don’t love it. But its going to change. Current, singular trams are the past and individually portioned units are the future. So all these private units have their own route agenda that can be almost fully personalized. Ain’t that public anymore. So in the future where you most likely don’t need to leave your house, you can travel “publically by yourself”. No need to worry about real one-on-one interactions. Yay.
Your future car
Gas driven cars will be banned from all cities by 2065. Bikes and tiny electric cars will rule. Two of these cars can fit on a current parking slot, doubling parking space. These vehicles are surrounded by solar panels. Parking meters are going to be two-way systems where you can charge your car and contribute energy back to the grid. When full, you pay your parking with the added energy generated from the solar panels. Bye-bye coins, cards and even ParkMan.
What car today?
Modern cars are going to be exclusive. Whatever car you choose; the options are extremely limited as all of the cars will be based on the same architecture. Interesting to see who wins this. BMW or Google? These cars are zero-emission due to combination of different energy generators such as wind, solar and electricity. Motors are in the wheels, allowing more passenger and storage space. The outer layer is fully personalized. Paint is digitalized and you change the look of your car when you want. Lambo or Ferrari. Yellow or red? On top of that, you have a 360-degree vision. So cars are going to pretty cool. But do we need them?
Passenger experience is going to be the focus point. In cities we are going too see a lot of autonomous vehicles. Communal mobile spaces develop, was it for work or entertainment. We don’t have to own a vehicle. We just don’t need to. Pods pick us up from home, transport us to our workplace or to the gym. After your workday (if you even have to work thanks to robots), pods can pick you up even from the 33rd floor. Ensuring you don’t have to walk a step. Super healthy. But you might not get fat, thanks to a magic pill, but that’s another topic. These pods are singular, double for couples and multi-pods for groups. They can move together or separately, however you want. These pods ship packages and whatever. Amazon did their first drone delivery in UK. Wolt is testing Starship’s robot transporter. Automated transportation is the future. If companies don’t change, they die. Harsh, but true.
We are clueless
What is really going to happen? Its exciting. We don’t know. People are saying different stuff. Who do we believe? Again, no correct answer. We live in a state of ignorance. Nothing different from this Donald Trump’s situation. Its scary, because we don’t know what tomorrow brings us. If he’s tweets even mean anything. We might just fly around in cities. Flying cars are already here. I’m looking for my own Iron Man suit. Heck, the first movers might live in Mars. Or what about teleportation? Our planet is in danger anyhow. Elon wants out, who is with us?
