Only the crazy come to Finland in November - SLUSH '16
November 29, 2016
The world will descend upon Helsinki tomorrow. With over 17000 attendees from 124 countries including more than 2330 startups, 1150 investors and over 600 journalists, Slush is undoubtly Europe's largest, most international and of course the sexiest startup event of the year. The venue has grown significantly year-over-year starting from only 250 attendees in 2008! What this means? Well, the startup ecosystem has globally gained increased attention. But also what I like to believe as a Finn, is that the Finnish attitude towards entrepreneurship has been and is growing. And this is really happening. More and more students want to start their own business and become entrepreneurs. Bye bye corporate suits. Also Finland's startups got the most VC funding in Europe last year. Apparently people like to invest here. And why wouldn't they!? We have an excellent environment for startups (Startup Sauna in Otaniemi can almost be considered as a holy business incubator). We also have serious engineering talent and powerful healthtech knowledge. Our future looks very good. The baby boomers aren't a threat, they are an opportunity!
Finland needs more money. We need more investors. We need more VC's. We have it all. The talent, the environment, the support, the connections and the technology. We just need to fix our tax system somehow... Nevertheless, thankfully Slush is just around the corner. Investors have an amazing opportunity to search for the Finnish talent, and also as we call it, Sisu. Slush is all about meeting people and creating awesome stuff, together. By ourselves we can go fast, but together we go far.
Slush starts now and if you're not coming, you should. I believe we can find something very cool this year. Helsinki is the new Valley and Slush is the highlight of the city. So I'll see you there!
